The purpose of this page is to advise of my intent to again nominate as a candidate at the next WA State Elections to be held on Saturday 11 March 2017. I intend to again stand as an Independent but, this time, in WA's upper house, the Legislative Council for the North Metropolitan Region.

The role of WA's upper house, the Legislative Council, is to act as a "House of Review" in that its central purpose is to act as a house of review for legislation passed through the lower house, the Legislative Assembly. This includes revi
ewing legislation and scrutinising the government's budget and the administration of government departments and other public agencies..."

I have chosen to stand as an Independent as I find that even though the major parties do have some decent policies, they also, however, have policies that do not necessarily benefit the majority of members of our society. This is due to the concept of a party having a set of principles (ideology) which underpins it and, subsequently, determines the direction a party takes in forming its policies.

The problem with this approach is that none of the parties have a set of principles that are commonly accepted by ALL members of our society. This is underpinned by the fact that based on primary votes, it is rare that a party would receive more than 50% of the overall primary vote at an election.

For example:
2005 - ALP received 41.9% of the primary vote whereas the Libs received 35.6%
2008 - ALP 35.8% and the Libs 38.4% respectively.
2013 - ALP 33.1% and the Libs 47.1% respectively.

At first glance, it appears from the above that the 2 major parties have the support of approximately a third of the voting public each (33%) with around 10% - 15% who swing between these 2 parties. The remainder appear to be spread across minor parties and Independents. Therefore, I find it difficult to accept that the policies of any party can be said to be truly representative of the majority of voters.

Accordingly, I have chosen to stand as an Independent adopting a central position between the 2 major parties so that ideological policies do not overly benefit the minority at the expense of the majority.

Attached is a list of issues (policies) that illustrate my position on where I stand on matters. Some issues are State based whereas others are National, however, I've listed them to better illustrate where I stand overall.

I accept that not every issue will be supported by everyone....and that's understandable.

Please note - I do reserve the right to change my position on an issue when presented with
facts that contradict my current view. To remain dogmatic on an issue in the face of evidence that strikes down that position is, in my opinion, ridiculous.
